Two Words Working Together
executive summary >>>
Mountain climbers experience certain physiologic changes when they reach high altitude (5,000 - 11,500 feet) plus very high altitude (11,500 - 18,000 feet) and extreme altitude (above 18,000 feet). Arrival into rarefied air without auxiliary support from an oxygen tank causes oxygen deficiency in the blood which can trigger nausea, nosebleeds, and hyperventilation. So we of course know that pre-climb conversations about the body's reaction to altitude are crucial and essential for success and survival.
Conversely, for scuba divers who explore well below sea level at a "negative altitude" careful pre-dive planning also looms large. From novice to certified, all divers can get the bends or can experience blackouts if they ascend back to the surface too quickly. Nitrogen bubbles form in the blood which are very painful and can be fatal. Even though divers may accomplish their goal (a great exploratory dive) ample time must be budgeted for the slow ascent back to the surface. The "essential" here is time and patience so that decompression can occur and the body has a chance to adjust.
In business as it is in personal life we can dream of and set out to reach goals or "summits" or desired "altitudes" but as we do so we are always better off if we first consider the six episodes that occur within a journey and the "essentials" needed within each one of those episodes.
While leaving any "base camp" it is wise to preview the mind's ability and the body's ability to adjust and survive during the "journey to" plus "arrival at" and to perform an extended "stay" with an eventual "return from".
